Challenges
Physical Damage
The hospital's buildings, including wards, operating rooms, and administrative offices, have been physically damaged due to looting and bombings, leading to interruptions in electric power, exacerbated by looting of the generator machine during the conflict.
Lack of Medical Equipment and Supplies
Adwa Hospital has lost all its medical and non-medical equipment, electrical systems, water supply, and medical supplies to looting by Eritrean troops, rendering it minimally functional since 2020 and disrupting the supply chain for critical medical resources.
Lack of Sanitation
Destruction of sanitation facilities and a shortage of sanitation supplies have created a significant problem at the hospital, jeopardizing the safety of patients and caregivers.
Crisis Toll on Healthcare Workers
The war has placed a significant toll on the psychological well-being of healthcare workers and patients, compromising their ability to provide care. Consequently, the provision of basic healthcare to the community is severely compromised, and both patients and healthcare workers are in need of financial, social and emotional support.
Our Aims
We aim to provide emergency support to make the hospital start and continue providing basic medical services. The scale of the current problem is so large, and the lack of supplies is so urgent that immediate support is required to save the lives of patients who depend on AGH for their basic health care services.
Specific Objectives: ⮚
1.
To provide funds to purchase the needed power supply by purchasing a generator to ensure a reliable power supply for essential medical equipment and solve the interruption of medical care due to interruption of power services.
2.
To provide funds for the purchase of sanitation, medical supplies and autoclave to improve infection control and sterilization procedures and support the hospital to provide effective medical services.
3.
To enhance hygiene and sanitation practices in the hospital for the well-being of patients and staff.
End Goal
In reaching our end goal, Adwa General Hospital’s revival hinges on addressing three immediate priorities: securing a functioning generator, restoring the autoclave, and ensuring a steady supply of hygiene and sanitation materials. Furthermore, recognizing the vital role of our dedicated staff, we emphasize the significance of providing psycho-social support, including financial assistance, to ensure their resilience and continued commitment to serving the community.
